Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV):
=E2=80=9CTrust in the Lord with al=
l your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways sub=
mit to him, and he will make your paths straight.=E2=80=9D
This prover=
b supports the themes of 1 Peter 4, particularly the call to live for God=
=E2=80=99s will rather than human desires (1 Peter 4:1-2) and to endure s=
uffering with faith (1 Peter 4:12-19). It emphasizes complete trust in Go=
d and submission to His guidance, aligning with the chapter=E2=80=99s exh=
ortation to serve faithfully and glorify God in all circumstances.
1 Peter 4 (NIV) Living for God
1 Therefore, since Christ suffere=
d in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoeve=
r suffers in the body is done with sin.
2 As a result, they do no=
t live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather=
for the will of God.
3 For you have spent enough time in the pas=
t doing what pagans choose to do=E2=80=94living in debauchery, lust, drun=
kenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
4 They are su=
rprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and the=
y heap abuse on you.
5 But they will have to give account to him =
who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 For this is the =
reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that th=
ey might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, bu=
t live according to God in regard to the spirit.
7 The end of all =
things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray=
.
8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a=
multitude of sins.
9 Offer hospitality to one another without gr=
umbling.
10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have receive=
d to serve others, as faithful stewards of God=E2=80=99s grace in its var=
ious forms.
11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who spe=
aks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the s=
trength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Je=
sus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.Suffering for Being a Christian
12 Dear friends, do not be surpri=
sed at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though somet=
hing strange were happening to you.
13 But rejoice inasmuch as yo=
u participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed w=
hen his glory is revealed.
14 If you are insulted because of the =
name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests=
on you.
15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thie=
f or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.
16 However=
, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that yo=
u bear that name.
17 For it is time for judgment to begin with Go=
d=E2=80=99s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be=
for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
18 And, =E2=80=9CIf=
it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodl=
y and the sinner?=E2=80=9D
19 So then, those who suffer according=
to God=E2=80=99s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator=
and continue to do good.
Prayer :
Heavenly Father,
We humbl=
y come before You, inspired by the teachings of 1 Peter 4. Grant us the r=
esolve to adopt the attitude of Christ, living not for earthly desires bu=
t for Your holy will. Strengthen us to remain alert and sober-minded in p=
rayer, to love one another deeply, and to serve others with the gifts You=
have entrusted to us. In the face of trials, help us to rejoice in shari=
ng Christ=E2=80=99s sufferings, trusting in the presence of Your Spirit. =
May we commit our souls to You, our faithful Father, and persevere in doi=
ng good, that all we do may bring glory to Jesus Christ, to whom be all p=
ower and praise forever. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.=0D
